The story
The 1200 Granluce is the saloon Fiat derived from the 1100 in the late 1950s: the same layout, a bigger engine and larger glass areas, hence the name. It was the car for those who wanted a little more, without going overboard.
This one arrived at the workshop covered in dust, with the headlining in shreds, the seats collapsed and the floor full of debris. It was stripped down to the bare shell, repaired and repainted light blue with a black roof; the chrome was restored and the interior remade in two colours, faithful to the original.
The restoration step by step
From dust to light blue
- Step 1 of 6
How it arrived
Covered in dust, without grille or bumpers, the paint dull. Everything comes off: bonnet, glass, chrome, dashboard. The parts go into boxes, sorted by area.
- Step 2 of 6
Under the headlining and carpets
The headlining was falling apart and the floor was full of dirt and debris. With the cabin empty, panels, chassis rails and underbody are checked, all the way to the rear axle.
- Step 3 of 6
The seats, from the springs up
The original padding had crumbled and the hessian was torn. The seat frames with their springs were kept; on top went new padding and new covers.
- Step 4 of 6
Light blue and black
The bare shell on stands, without wheels: metal repaired, primers, then the light blue of the body and the black of the roof.
- Step 5 of 6
Chrome and reassembly
Grille, bumpers, lamps and trim go back in place; inside, the dashboard is refitted and the wiring connected, wire by wire.
- Step 6 of 6
A two-tone interior
Seats, rear bench and door panels remade in light blue and beige, with the stitched lines in the centre as originally; rubber mats and trim back in place.
